Description

Myllypuro is a sub-urban city crag in eastern Helsinki and consists mostly easy to moderate boulders and only a few problems close to 7th grade. Most of the problems are old school style: vertical wall climbs or slabs with small holds. Rock type is coarse granite which tend to rip off your skin, although smoother rock can also be found in sector Koulu. Don't set your expectations too high regarding the route and rock quality and you can easily spend an enjoyable day or two here. Most problems have good landings and you can get by with only a single pad. Shorter problems (2-3 meters) suit really well for kids and beginner climbers transitioning to outdoors from indoor bouldering. Some of the routes dry fast after the rain, especially the hardest ones on sector Main Wall.

Beware of broken glass, although lately the area has been mostly clean of garbage.

Recommended routes:
Mörkö (6A)
Kanttia kanssa (6A)
Haisuli (6A)
Kipukynnys (6C)

History

Some routes of the area have already been climbed back in the 1990's. After documenting the area in 2011, it has gained some popularity among climbers. Due to lack of better knowledge, the first ascensionists and original route names might differ. Please contact if you know better and we'll make the corrections!
