Description

This recently discovered sport crag is perfectly oriented to be in shade all day.

The routes are unique and full of character, on bullet-hard sandstone you adjust to the holds you are given; and tis lends itself to complex and excellent climbing where you need to pull out all your tricks.

The walls are slightly more steep than vertical, with some overhangs, but the climbing is athletic and unusual.

The setting is magnificent overlooking the plains to Acid House bouldering area, with Eland (buck) and baboons occasionally seen.

With the river near the base, one can cool off on the walk-in or out in great rock pools.

The walk-in is flat through open scrub on clearly marked single track path, and about 10-15 mins from parking.

History

During mid 2020, Sean Maasch found this crag during Covid during his "retreat" from the CoVid lockdown madness; bouldering for months and developing this crag bolting many lines he gave to others and saving some for himself.

It was the crag we'd been looking for; shady - in summer!, pleasant walk-in, great interesting routes, and amazing bouldering on the big blocks below.

In a frenzy before lockdown opened up, almost 30 routes were fully developed - with some open (and some closed) projects still available today.

Out of respect, we ask that local route opening ethics be adhered to; in South Africa a route marked I.P. in chalk at 1st bolt, (In Progress), or either/and with a tied off finger-tape or cord at the 1st bolt, is a closed project the bolter is working on. If not, its fair game.

Huge cash, time, and energy goes into new routing. Stay off closed projects!

The Open Projects are clearly marked in this guide: they're a gift from locals to go do instead.
