Description

Kvarnby climbing area is a part of the Kirkkonummi Meiko nature conservation area. Kvarnby is very popular climbing site with kids and newcomers since there are plenty of easy routes there. There are also some traditional Finnish testpieces such as Lepakkomiehen frendi (6c+) and Majavan paluu (7a) of which the latter is the first 7a in Finland

The cliff is facing southwest and it's shaded by some big trees. The access is very easy since parking is plenty and there's a good road from parking to the cliff. The ground below the cliff is even.

With public transportation the best combination is bike+train from the Kirkkonummi train station.

History

Kvarnby has very long climbing tradition in Finnish context. The cliff was found in the 1980's and most of the big lines were climbed during the same decade. Many of the routes are first ascended by Swiss citizen Swen Holst who visited Finland in the summer of 1985.

Finland's first 7a Majavan paluu was ascended in Kvarnby in 1986 by Kari Poti. There are also many recent additions with bolts.
