Description

Herttua is a easy access city crag that climbers have visited for decades. Its potential was found again around 2014 and since then it has gained popularity.

Specially routes Ruutikellari 7B, Gebardi 7A+, Gebardi direct 6B+, Pikkukanjonin arete 6B+, KISS vasen and oikea ~6A+ have been praised by many.

The sector is sunny in the spring before the leaves appear on trees. In summertime trees bring some shade to the area making bouldering more comfortable even in the hot weather!

Luolat 1-4 have not been climbed much because of the waste laying everywhere. Hoping this area would get cleaned by Helsinki City, since it offers many nice possibilities for bouldering. There has been some attempts to open this area as a city park by Koskela- seura.

History

The place has been climbed from early 60's by Terho and Tapani Nisula and also other climbers from climbing association. The brothers Nisula didnt have ropeclimbing knowledge so they were basically bouldering without crashpads. Sector "pääseinä" was climbed then from few vertical lines plus a traverse. Atleast around 2005 it was already in modern bouldering use with crashpads by Nalle Hukkataival and some climbers from Käpylä. Mikko Vartiainen and Pauli Salminen have been re-developing the area and cleaning the place around 2014.
