History

The climbing activity in Djupviksgrottan started in the mid 90's. Notable climbers from this era are Vesa Salonen and Tomas Johansson. The hardest route in the area, Normipäivä 8B, was climbed by the legendary Nalle Hukkataival in 2007. The area has since had hundreds of new routes added due to the near infinite potential of the crag and the amount of visitors. Another very influential name for Grottan is Anssi Laatikainen, pioneering a metric ton first ascents during the mid-to-late 2010's.

Grottan has become one of the most, if not the most influential modern day crags in all of Finland. The quality is world-class, and thus receives a lot of climbing tourism from all around the world. The crag contains the most ticked (and thus probably the most climbed) boulder in all of Finland, Hallonpingvin, 6C.
