🚗
There are two nearby parking spots, depending on which boulders you are keen for. For both, leave the A496 on the bend signposted Tanygrisiau and Ffestiniog Power Station. As you leave the main road, take the left hand fork and follow the road past the cafe and to a switchback to the right and up the hill over the train tracks. The first obvious car park is on the right (not on the double yellow lines). For the second parking (used for the Cwmorthin waterfall walk) go past the layby, snaking right then left to the end of the road.

🚶‍♂️
The most popular (and easiest) approach is as for Clogwyn yr Oen from the Cwmorthin Waterfall Car Park. Go through the kissing gate on the left at the top of the car park and over the footbridge. Follow the path to join up with the reservoir access road, turn right and continue until the boulders become apparent on the right hand side.

For the Tempest, once you reach the incline, cross the fence on your left and drop down the incline. The boulders can be seen on the left. Alternatively, you can approach the Tempest from below, where you can access the circuit of boulders below the road. For these, park in the first layby, go through the five-bar gate opposite and trend up and leftwards to find the craggy escarpments and boulders therein.
