🌲🗣️About Haltiavuori 🏔️🌄
Haltiavuori is a beautiful crag with a great location. The main sector has some great action for beginner and novice climbers. Haltiala is maintained by the city as an outdoor recreation area. Thus, you can be completely surrounded by nature, but still have superb paths leading to all the sectors. Haltiavuori is surrounded by the Haltiala nature preservation area, and because of that be especially respectful of the nature around you.

About Sectors

The main sector, Haltiaseinä, comprises an extensive wall predominantly characterized by slabby features with intermittent vertical sections and slight overhangs. Offering a diverse range of problems spanning from 3 to 6a+, Haltiavuori serves as an ideal introductory crag for beginners while offering ample challenges for intermediate climbers. Most of the routes here are technical fingery slabs, but there are a few routes that have powerful dynamic moves with great holds! While the rock quality varies from satisfactory to somewhat abrasive, the wall's modest height, ranging from 2 to 4 meters, ensures a manageable climbing experience with minimal risk, often requiring only one to two crash pads. Moreover, its quick drying nature, coupled with the shade provided by surrounding trees, renders it a favorable climbing destination even in warmer weather conditions. Haltiaseinä is maintained for climbability. Still, feel free to help with the cleaning, but do not remove moss or lichen, as per the cities request.

Sahanterä and Miniskidi both provide easy bouldering fit for beginners. With the highest grade being a staggering 4+, unless you are starting out, these sectors are probably not worth a visit. Both of the sectors hold similarly good rock quality, but Sahanterä has more routes and a better landing. They both dry extremely quickly and have no shade.

Knuckles is a small sector near the main area. It has a few interesting climbs and decent rock but the landings here are quite dangerous due to a large shelf below most of the sector and large loose rocks to the right of it. Topping out is also a bit sketchy due to the shape of the top lip and for the lack of holds. Knuckles has a bit of shade provided by the trees around it.

Remove Your Skin Please got it's name from the horrible sharp granite the boulder is made from. It holds multiple routes from grade 3-5. The landings are decent. This sector has the most shade of the crag. Sit starts for most routes have not been established yet, so if you want to donate some skin for developing purposes have a go!

Sola is a small sector with a few decent problems between grades 4-5. Landings are decent, with the exception of the right side. Rock is decent. Sola has good shade as well.

Northern sectors:

Pitkäkosken Blokki is a boulder on the smaller side. It has the hardest climbs in the whole crag, those being Mila assis 7C, and Red Snapper 7A+. The boulder is roght next to Pitkäkosken ulkoilumaja and its' parking area. The rock type is orbicular granite, which makes the climbing a bit hard on the fingers.

Heaven is a small boulder to the north. It is around a 600m walk away from the main area. The boulder is quite small and the rock quality is absolute choss.

History

Pitkäkoski:

The Pitkäkoski boulder saw its' first ascents tens of years ago. Due to its' size, it hasn't seen much attention along the years. Most notably it received a very hard new route in 2021, Mila 7C, which was climbed by M.S.

Main area development:

April 2023
This crag was first discovered by looking at topographical maps by Asikainen. After a total of 43km of hiking for scouting purposes, Haltiavuori was scouted by Taukojärvi and Asikainen and the bouldering potential was discovered.

May 2023
Haltiavuori began development by Asikainen, Virtala and 'Joe Carpark'. The development of the main sector was mostly done as of 2.6.2023, and the topo was set to be published.

4.6.2023
Development of Sahanterä and Miniskidi was begun and subsequently completed due to the easy nature of the routes and the small size of the sectors.

5.6.2023
Haltiavuori was published by 27crags as a premium crag.

10.6.2023
The sector Knuckles was cleaned up a bit and four routes were added.

16-17.6.2023
The boulder RYSP was cleaned and 7 new routes were added by Asikainen and Virtala on a camping trip to Haltiavuori. The duo added two new routes to Knuckles, finishing development there. Also on the 17. the sector Sola was cleaned and routes were added. Sola is still quite dirty. As of now, the main bouldering area's development has been completed.

28.6.2023
Asikainen and Virtala returned, added two new routes to the main wall and made their way to the northern boulders. Cleaning and development was begun on one of them, three easy routes were added and potential for a nice difficult line was discovered.

10.7.2023
Asikainen and Virtala made a comeback after a week of heavy rains. This day the hard line at Heaven was climbed, and was the name "Pusukone". A few easier routes were also added to the sector. The development is more or less complete and we have moved on to other projects.

18.5.2025
VUK ry added the Pitkäkoski boulder to the Haltiavuori topo, so the block would receive more attention. This was also done to consolidate the topos in the Helsinki/Vantaa area.
