This crag is a giant outdoor artificial wall! Climbing mostly on hand-modeled holds. Problems are permanent, so it is possible to project, name and grade.
The area consists of three old (19th century) and partially blown up Prussian forts: Stockhausen, Haake, and the most popular fort - The Waldersee. The forts are few kilometers apart.
The area is famous for its impressive roofs, but there are lines going through any formation.
Climbing is possible at any time of the year. As some of the sectors are massive roofs, you can also climb in rainy weather.
The beginning of climbing in this crag is in the mid-90s. Fort Waldersee was visited sporadically during this period and only simple problems on brick walls were made. At the turn of the millennium, several more difficult lines with "natural" holds were created, including Travers, Front wschodni, Jointmaster, Ave Szatanas (these problems no longer exist in their original versions).
Due to the material from which the forts were made (broken stone), climbing was not the most pleasant and safe. At the beginning of the millennium, the first attempts to strengthen the holds with mortar glue took place. At that time, the remaining two forts were also discovered for climbing: Stockhausen (the western part of the city) and Haake (to the east).
With time, a slight strengthening of the holds increased in scale and turned into their formation (a unique style of routesetting). The process has intensified and since then several tons of mortar has been used, creating probably the largest artificial climbing area in the world.
