Description

📚 Crag X is also covered in the guidebook "Arctic Circle Bouldering" from Nov. 2019.

Crag X is a medium sized area located in the south west corner of Straumøya south of Bodø. It is scenically located on a hill below the cliffs of Ranvfloget where you have great views west and north towards the ocean and Bodø. The climbing is mostly on freestanding boulders. The rock quality varies from firm to a little chossy and flaky, but presents some nice features and varied types of holds. Most of the lines are vertical to steep overhanging. The landings are generally good and flat and you can get by with one or two pads on most boulders.

👶 Most of the crag is very child friendly though you can't bring a stroller. But it's safe and easy for children to play around.

History

The first known development started in 2008 by Geir Ove Amundsen who went there on several trip over the following two years. It was then quiet for several years until Sten Stenkjær heard of the possibilities and put up several lines during the years of 2015-16. But it wasn't until 2018-2020 that the area saw the biggest boom in new lines and became one of the go-to spots for an evening or weekend session for the younger generations. During 2020 the steep clifs of Ravnfloget looming above the boulders also saw development of many sports routes, including Bodø's hardest sports route that ticks in around 8b+. So don't foget to bring your harnes and rope aswell as pads.
