Description

Shkëmbi Bilbilit is the newest crag around Tirana and it's a beautiful addition!
Both the location and climbing offer something different from the other crags in the region.

The cliff is situated at the top of the Dajti ridge line, and after a 40 minutes hike on a good trail you find yourself in a peaceful natural setting with wide open views over the city of Tirana, the coast and the sea. When the air is clear you can see all the way to Mali Tomorrit and even the Karaburun peninsula in the south of the country!

The climbing is defined by very compact and solid grey rock, likened by visitors to famous areas like Ceuse or Finale. The angles range from overhanging to slabby and despite being quite compact the rock is featured enough to offer high quality face climbing on crimps, pockets and cracks. The grades range from low sixes through 8's and even some projects remain. The quality of the lines and climbing is equally good throughout the different difficulties.

The crag is mostly south facing and gets a lot of sun, but because it is at a higher elevation than the other crags around Tirana it can be perfect for climbing in the sun when it is already getting too warm for that at the other sectors, but not yet time to completely hide in the shadows.

History

This crag had been scouted and on the radar of local climbers for a few years, before in 2023 the first routes were bolted by a group of visiting climbers from Italy together with the local community.
Development is still ongoing, with routes slowly being added by locals together with visiting climbers. Keep this in mind when visiting here: some routes may not yet be ready to climb. Make sure to update the topos on here before you go, and check route descriptions before climbing!
