Pickala

Pickala is a shady crag for a hot summer day. There is some occasional sun but not much. The rock is smooth glacier polished granite and often very slippery. Many of the older sports routes have occasional nut placements so a rack is advised if not mandatory. Super Mario (7a+) is one the best routes in the Helsinki area and highly recommended!

Traffic noise can be a problem because of the road nearby. On the other hand, the crag is easily accessible with public transportation because of the same reason.

Pickala crag was found in mid 1990's. The first route of the cliff was African Queen by Tuomas Hänninen in 1994. Most of the routes were done in the years of 1997 and 1998 by Peter Hammer. There are also some more recent additions.
