Description

Mariholtet is a beautiful, quiet crag approx. 1km south of Mariholtet Sportsstue in Østmarka. The area is filled with a cluster of large, free-standing rocks with smooth granite. This makes the crag quite different from the bouldering closer to the city, where most of the climbing is on rock faces instead of free-standing blocs.

Mariholtet is most famous for the proud line "Obelix, 8a", which has pulled many strong climbers deep into the forest by its majesty.

The crag has not seen many new established routes since its discovery (2014). As of now (early 2021), Mariholtet consists almost exclusively of boulders of closer to the upper end of the grade scale. There is however, a clear potential to develop many easier lines in the area. (and hard, of course!)

For most Oslo-boulderers, the 6km hike to get there is very discouraging. There is a wide, fairly flat gravel road leading from Ellingsrud straight to Mariholtet perfect for riding a bike.
