Description

The climbing site Karin is only half an hour (by car) away from Starigrad Paklenica. The special charming feature of Karin is its location, which is nearby the so called Karin sea, over the kanyon of the river Bijela, the karst phenomenon protected as a national monument of nature. Although it is near the road Obrovac-Zadar, you could have the feeling that you are miles away from civilization. As Bijela is karst river which water-level depends on the season and the quantity of rain, the most beautiful opportunity to visit Karin you will have during spring or late autumn when the river still has a lot of water. At that time you have also the chance to see few beautiful waterfalls, with the highest one of 10 meters.
The most appropriate period for climbing in Karin is from autumn to spring. The summer is very hot there. Only the sector “Preko vode” is shade covered during the whole day, and in the afternoons the shade is spread over the sectors “Raumer” and “Cassin”. The quality of the rock is mostly good, but the caution is needed because in some routes some holds can be broken off.

Note: Please consider that the canyon of Bijela is nationally protected area, so let us keep it clean of the trash in helping preventing anything that could lead to prohibition of climbing in that place.
