Description

Known about as a trad climbing venue for many years, it was not until the summer of 2020 (thank you lockdown) that Clogwy y Garreg saw any additions in terms of bouldering. It just so happens that there were quite a few of them...

The Garreg has three main scars of rock and while the first two had been explored and developed, it is on the third, further back from the road, that the boulders are to be found. While there are satellite areas, such as the Warm Up Blocs, the main bulk of the boulders sit fairly close together, with the Cracked Bloc being the main feature. Meanwhile, the steep Roohan Roof - named after one developer's two children - is a must visit for anyone wishing to test their mettle on something more overhanging.

The exposed aspect gives two major benefits: a very quick drying crag; and a stunning view down to Penygroes and the Irish Sea to the West. However in winter, the opposite may well be true, with strong westerly winds likely to blast any potential boulderer. Nevertheless, being further out to the West and off the beaten track of the Pass and the Ogwen, Clogwyn y Garreg will likely offer more solitude for those looking for somewhere a little quieter.

Outstanding problems include Roohan, Dr Collins and Deep Boom. However there is much more potential at this crag and many more lines just waiting to be added.
