Description

Cima alle Coste is the wall overlooking the northern area of Dro city and the complex of Marocche di Dro. It has the aspect of a huge dihedral and it is composed by five main walls.
The most evident is “Lo Scudo”, a solid grey slab facing east, offering a mix of sport and alpinistic routes. All of them require a good technique and are really interesting, thanks to the good equipment, the quality of the rock and the beautiful environment. Access and descent are easy and comfortable.
On the slopes of “Lo Scudo” there is another interesting sector, called “L’Antiscudo”. It is less evident than the previous sector, but adds many other technical lines on slabs, some dihedrals and cracks to Cima alle Coste. The equipment is generally good on fix and it is advisable to climb here during sunny winter mornings and the mid-seasons.
On the top of “Lo Scudo” you will find the “Central” wall, offering lines that are more vertical and athletic along dihedrals and cracks.
The south wall is called “Parete Sud” and it is the perfect spot for experienced and reckless alpinists. The few hard lines running along this vertical sector can be considered among the most fearful ones of the Alto Garda valley. Some sections have friable rock, so do not underestimate the climb.
The last wall is “Guglia Solidarnosc”, a beautiful and slender grey pillar on the right edge of Cima alle Coste. There are both sport and alpinistic route here.

The quiet environment and the amazing view over the valley make Cima alle Coste a nice spot to visit. Approach and descent of the routes are described in the topos. If you want to eat some fish (caught by you), stop by the ”Oasi lago Bagattoli”, which is a beautiful fishing reserve.

History

Cima alle Coste is the theater of some of the historical ascents of Arco. The evident dihedral had already been climbed by the rope team Heinz Steinkotter - Reinhold Messner - Heini Holzer in the 1966, becoming the first explorers of the wall. “Guglia Solidarnosc” was named by Giuliano Stenghel, who climbed many lines here.
The routes were developed thanks to the effort of many climbers, check them in the descriptions!
