Christian Wahle began developing both of these sectors in 2019 and 2021, respectively. He invested a significant amount of time and effort into their preparation and for that, we’ll always be grateful.
The climbing is highly varied, and the two sectors each have their raison d’être, thanks to their opposing orientations and complementary grades.
Sector Sigi is characterized by bouldery routes due to the nature of the rock. Many of the lines have intense starts and/or another crux along the way.
Solarium, on the other hand, features more technical, vertical lines with sharp crimps and "broccoli" slopers, as well as semi-steep tufa climbing on striking natural features.
Some of us had already noticed the massive wall of what is now Solarium in the early years of climbing in Leonidio. Back then, we referred to it as "White Diamond", named after the large, diamond-shaped rock scar clearly visible from the valley below.
But it was Christian who brought the vision to life, putting in the effort and motivation to actually start the sector in 2019, with the help of Julian and other friends from Germany. Over the years, a few additional lines have been bolted, but the wall is still far from finished. There are plenty of interesting routes waiting to be equipped in the future. Sigi followed in 2021, also initiated by Christian. With its opposing sun exposure, it complements Sigi perfectly, offering the possibility of a full day of climbing, if skin, motivation, and power allow. 😊
