Description

The crag Schleierwasser is situated in the lower part of the valley at an altitude of around 900 meters above sea level. It consists of 8 different sectors: Kolosseum, Gamsloch, Eskimo, Grauewand, Rotewand, Herbstzeit, Wunderland, and Schleierwasserfall. The walls face south and east. Across all sectors, you will find around 100 routes in different styles, including slabs, overhangs, vertical climbs, short powerful routes (which are rare in this area), and long endurance-demanding routes.

Due to the low altitude, climbing is possible from March to May and from September to January. The specific timing depends on the severity of the winter; however, between June and August, it can get quite hot. Winters here are very cold and snowy, with the Schleierwasserfall likely to be frozen until mid-April. It's a natural spectacle to witness the frozen icicles melting and breaking apart.

Sector Schleierwasserfall: Here, you'll find slabs and technical vertical climbs, with routes up to 40 meters long. Make sure to bring a long rope.

Sector Wunderland: The wall is slightly overhanging, with a height of around 20 meters. Climbing here is powerful and athletic, relying on crimps and featuring wide moves in some routes.

Sector Gamsloch: A small sector with a few routes. The overhanging wall offers routes ranging from 10 to 15 meters in length.

Sector Eskimo: This sector is short and overhanging, featuring only one route, which happens to be one of the most challenging in the valley at 8c+ difficulty.

Sector Grauewand: A small sector with only 5 routes, including a trad climb.

Sector Rote Wand: Offers endurance climbing on an overhanging wall.

Sector Herbstzeit: Consists of three technical short routes, approximately 10 to 15 meters long.

Kolosseum: Be sure to bring an 80-meter rope. The routes here are overhanging, powerful, and athletic, relying on slopy holds. The area remains dry for an extended period due to its significant overhang.

Have fun climbing! And don’t be stupid.*

Schleierwasserfall

The area is access sensitive!

Schleierwasserfall is located 1 km before the toll road and is accessible year-round. It is easy to find, as there is only one main road through the valley. After passing through the towns of Malta and Fischertratten, you will come across the distinctive Fallbach waterfall and the sport climbing crag Kreuzwand. Soon after, you'll reach parking areas on the left and right sides (3€ per day). For easy navigation, the parking is marked on Google Maps as "Parkplatz Schleierwasserfall." The parking area is spacious; please park considerately and avoid parking on the meadow. It also features a regularly serviced toilet maintained by locals.
From the parking area, it takes five to 20 minutes to reach the crags.

Schleierwasserfall: The trail begins next to the parking area and a cow meadow. Stay on the marked path that leads from the parking area to the climbing area, as there have been issues with private property rights.

Wunderland, Eskimo, Grauewand, Rotewand, Herbstzeit, and Kolosseum: The trail to these sectors starts at an opening in the middle of the fence around the parking area. The first sector you'll pass is Wunderland, and the last you'll reach is Kolosseum. Disregard the signs at the parking area, as they are inaccurate for these sectors.

Gamsloch: To reach Gamsloch, follow the road in the direction of Malta, then turn left at the sign for Gammsloch. Alternatively, you can take a small trail in the woods next to the street.

Important notes:
Dogs: Dogs are not allowed on the private property except at Schleierwasserfall.

Signal: Signal connectivity is generally good; however, it's advisable to download the map for offline use to ensure navigation accuracy.

Most importantly: Don’t be stupid.*
