The Plan de l’Aiguille can be accessed in two ways. The easiest is to use the Aiguille d midi telepherique. The cable car departs from Chamonix frequently throughout the season. ‘un aller simple’ (one way to the mid station) costs €17.’un aller-retour’ (return to the mid station) is €31. Season pass’s are also available for a discounted rate. So far there has been no issues with crash pads on the lift, however use your head. Their primary interest is ‘bums on seats’ so don’t arrive with 10 crash pads on a busy Saturday morning. For the strong and the brave you can hike to the Plan de l’aiguille in around 2.5 hours. A footpath departs from the back of the Grépon car park in Chamonix. The decent is considerably quicker although a warning for those unaccustomed: ‘your legs will hurt for days’
From the mid station take a small path running just right of the Buevette in the direction of the N.Face Aiguille du midi/ Grands Mulets refuge
