Description

Also known as ‘Liso de la Piná’, El Rut de Redován is the Winter Paradise of the sixth grade. It has more than 80 routes, and together with neighbouring La Pancha, it is the most extensive crag south of Alicante. Though most of the routes are single pitch, there are also excellent multipitch lines up to 220m, all of them perfectly bolted. The excellent quality and friction of its rock, full of crimps, pockets and goutes, and the abundance of fifth and sixth-grade routes, as well more overhanging routes up to the eighth grade, make El Rut a sought-after destination. It is not unusual to see more than 40 climbers here on winter weekends.

History

‘Botri’, ‘Perica’, ‘Mechas’ and ‘Osú’, all of them from Redován, made the first ascents in the 80´s. In the same decade, Javier ‘Liebre’, ‘Perico’ and Elías (among others), all from Orihuela, bolted the first lines on the right side of the crag for a Lead Climbing Competition for the Comunidad Valenciana. After that, because of the adjacent quarry this crag was kept ‘on hold’ until the quarry was eventually closed down. This allowed further development of the crag by the Club de Montaña Redován, together with ‘Callosino’, ‘Birles’, ‘Saimon’, ‘Davisico’, ‘Carvin’, Jaime Niñerola, ‘Monín’, ‘Cabesica’, ‘Correte’, Marisa Ruiz, Fran Santos, ‘Osú’, ‘Lejías’, Álvaro Arenas, ‘Caballa’, ‘Manu’, Rodrigo González, ‘Run’, Juan Antonio Bailén and ‘Beniel’.
