Description

Shady wall with amazing rock!

History

In 1982 climbers started to explore the large walls on the back side of the Agterpakhuispas, they called them "Hope" and "Charity". That year many good routes were climbed on "Charity" including "Shady Lane" a must do classic!

Over the next couple of year many great lines and even though they are 30 years old still offer trad climbers with modern gear a stiff challenge.

CHARITY - Trad Climbing

The area is access sensitive!

Access: The land is owned by Travellers Rest but accessed through someone else's land.

Drive: Parking near the old school.

Walk-in (Old): 2hrs
Walk along the track on the left side of the fields. Follow this to the end and then head up the steep hill on the left side of the slope staying away from the river (There are a few steep section which need to be negotiated). Continue up right along the base of "Hope" and once you reach the level of Charity cross the river and scramble up to the ledge.

Walk-in (New): 1.30hrs (I have never done this walk-in but apparently it is better?)
From the parking follow the right side of the fields and at the end walk directly up to the cliff staying to the right of the river away from the trees. At the base of the cliff move left to where you can scramble up to the base of the route.

Descent: From the top of the cliff, walk into the mountain with the valley to your left until you find a weakness which enables you to walk down into the valley. Follow the valley back to the start of the route.
