⛰️Caposele is a small town in the province of Avellino, set at the foot of the Picentini Mountains and known as the birthplace of the Sele River. The surrounding area is rich in forests, springs, and quiet mountain landscapes, making it an ideal destination not only for climbing but also for hiking and nature exploration. The town itself offers a relaxed southern Italian atmosphere, with traditional food, local wine, and a welcoming community.
The San Vito crag rises just outside Caposele and offers a convenient and accessible climbing spot with a wide range of routes, from grade 4 up to 8a. The limestone is generally compact and well featured, with vertical to slightly overhanging walls and some sectors providing endurance climbing on pockets and crimps. Thanks to its easy access and pleasant environment, it is particularly suitable for half-day sessions or for combining climbing with other outdoor activities in the area.
The crag also features a picnic area and a fountain. The peculiarity of the sector Grande Inverno (“Big Winter”) is that, due to its position, the temperature here is always cooler compared to the rest of the area. Be careful in this sector: there are trees close to some of the routes, and a distracted climber could accidentally hit them.

⛰️Caposele è un piccolo paese in provincia di Avellino, situato ai piedi dei Monti Picentini e noto per essere la sorgente del fiume Sele. L’area circostante è ricca di boschi, sorgenti e paesaggi montani tranquilli, rendendola una meta ideale non solo per l’arrampicata, ma anche per l’escursionismo e l’esplorazione della natura. Il paese stesso offre la tipica atmosfera rilassata del Sud Italia, con cucina tradizionale, vino locale e una comunità accogliente.
La falesia di San Vito si trova appena fuori Caposele e rappresenta una meta comoda e accessibile, con un’ampia varietà di vie che spaziano dal 4 all’8a. La roccia calcarea è in genere compatta e ben lavorata, con pareti verticali o leggermente strapiombanti e alcuni settori che offrono arrampicata di resistenza su buchi e tacche. Grazie al facile accesso e all’ambiente piacevole, la falesia è particolarmente adatta per mezza giornata di arrampicata o per essere combinata con altre attività outdoor della zona.
La falesia dispone inoltre di un’area picnic e di una fontana. La particolarità del settore Grande Inverno è che, grazie alla sua posizione, la temperatura risulta sempre più fresca rispetto al resto dell’area. Occorre però fare attenzione: in questo settore ci sono alberi vicini alle vie e un arrampicatore distratto potrebbe urtarli accidentalmente.
