Description

Agios Nikolaos is located in a remote, tranquil setting, above the Kannoures - Agios Nikolaos Tis Steggis Nature Trail and the Karkotis River, which flows year round. A closed chromium mine is located next to the climbing area. Most of the building is closed—it currently operates as a bat sanctuary— but a room on the left side of the building is open as a climber’s and hiker’s refuge.

Climbers can combine a day at Agios Nikolaos with a visit to the 12th-century church of Agios Nikolaos Tis Stegis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

All climbers should be aware that Agios Nikolaos is located in a mountain environment with no cell phone reception. Due to the unstable nature of the rock in the Troodos area, helmets are a must and climbing with care is crucial. Be aware that there is no easy access if help is required. Always communicate your plans with others ahead of time.

Conditions

The multipitches, sport sector, and black rock have morning shade in the summer until approximately 12:30 p.m. The slab gets full sun until approximately 4 p.m. in the summer.

History

The first multipitch line was bolted in 2009 by Andreas Andreou, who added additional multipitches in 2012 and 2020 and additional single-pitch sport climbs in 2020. The slab was developed in 2013, mainly by Andreas Theophanous.
