Description

Éléphant Ouest
An area where you can almost be alone when the main area is overcrowded. The reason why is very unclear, because there are some of the most beautiful lines of the whole Fontainebleau in this area. And some very featuristic roofs with TUFAS. That said, this area should not go under the radar anymore.
Though, the area is less family friendly and many of the problems are high. The very high class climbing starts from above 6B.

Some gems of the area:
DA CAPO ***** WORLD CLASS BEAUTY! 7C
The whole Grand toit roof with it's many variations and traverses (7A - 7C+)
The Bout du monde roof. Be aware, there is rumors about a loose flake for the longer traverses (7A - 8A+)
Gargamel 7C
Transpotting 7C
Jaws 7B
l'Aileron du requin 7A
La dernier chance assis 7A
Pas de panique 6C

The roofs; Grand toit, Bout du monde and Diablo are surprisingly cold during a summer day and can be a perfect place to train or escape the heat. Also, the roofs are filled with holds rarely seen on sandstone.

The whole area is mostly shady and often great if the main area is a bit too warm or crowded.

The sandstone seems a bit better in quality than in elephant, but please let it dry properly after rain.

Go there and have fun!

Éléphant ouest

The area is access sensitive!

Let the rock dry properly! Wet holds break easily.
