Description

Campana dei Caduti is one of the closest crags to Rovereto and is a great spot for winter climbing.
It takes its name from the huge bell that is visible from the top of the wall. The bell is a monument to the victims of all wars and it has been forged from the bronze of the cannons of the First World War.
The wall is located at about 400 meters above sea level on Mount Zugna and is divided into two main sectors.
Sector Generale inverno is a vertical wall, having technical and fingery routes. Thanks to its South-West exposition, climbing turns out to be really enjoyable during the Winter. Difficulties go from 5 to 7b+. Routes have been cleaned and re-bolted in the years 2020-2022.
Sectors B and C are located inside a canyon and are generally more shaded. The wall is more overhanging and there are many tufas, so climbing requires pure strength and endurance. Difficulties range from 6b to 7c.
The approach is about 10 minutes inside a nice canyon.

We absolutely recommend a visit to the Campana dei Caduti that is few minutes ahead from the car park.

History

Campana dei caduti is located in the area of mount Zugna that in the past, during the First World War, was the Italian-Austrian front, as evidenced by the complex of trenches and turrets that are located at the top of the high wall and throughout the area.
The sectors were originally bolted by B. Mandelli, G. Scrinzi, C. Dalbosco, P. Masera and other climbers, but great effort was done by Niccolò Citroni in the last years to give it a new life.
