Description

The climbing area is conveniently located right outside the city center and worth checking out if you're around. The basalt rock is not the greatest quality, and one should as always be careful for loose rock when climbing, but the routes are as good as they can get in Yerevan.

The area is divided into four sectors, mainly offering sports climbing and some bouldering and traditional. On the trad routes, you will occasionally find a bolt or two. Bouldering at Penninsula High Balls, like the name suggests, is not for the faint-hearted. Routes are high, and crash pads in Armenia are rare. Fortunately, the cruxes are found in the lower section of the boulder problems.

Routes range between 4c and 7a+, with some new routes at sector Old School still ungraded. Mngo offers some easy routes which are great for beginners altough the first bolts are often quite high.

Overz Club climbing gym in Yerevan frequently organizes climbing here in spring/summer. Events are announced on their Facebook page.

Watch out for vipers in the gorge.
