The sector is a natural sinkhole, with rock faces oriented in different directions and featuring a variety of unique characteristics. It offers a wide range of grades, making it suitable for both beginners and more advanced climbers.
The predominant style is physical pocket climbing, although solid crimp strength is also very helpful. The sector can sometimes suffer from humidity. However, it generally stays dry even after scattered heavy rainfall.
Thanks to its close proximity to Heraklion, the sector is very popular and often used by locals as a natural training wall. As a result, many routes already show signs of frequent use.
Please bring and use brushes to clean the holds after climbing, especially on lines equipped with permanent draws, so that future generations can continue to enjoy this remarkable natural climbing area.
Description
History
Before it became a dedicated sport climbing destination, the site was (and remains) a primary training field for the Speleological Group of Crete (SPOK) and military special forces, who used the vertical walls for rappelling and rope technique drills.
From the early 2000's onward, local climber Aris Mavromatis and his peers transformed the site into the formidable sport climbing venue it is today.
