Description

Viganj offers all you may need for an active vacation. It is located in south side of the Pelješac peninsula, in beautiful nature. Climate is warm, with high rate of annual hours of sun. There are many historical and archaeological localities in the surroundings. Furthermore, there is a popular hiking spot – highest peak of the peninsula Sveti Ilija (961 m). Viganj is known as one of the most attractive spots for windsurfing and kitesurfing on the Adriatic.
Recently, Viganj became a place attractive to climbers. With efforts of local climbers, and also foreign visitors, several crags were equipped for climbing in the surroundings of Viganj. This is only the beginning because the potential is big. Among existing crags, the crag Nakovana should be stressed out: it is located at the bottom of the rocky hill that, at its top, preserves the remnants of a big settlement of llyrians – ancient people of the Dalmatian region. Traces of human presence at this locality date as far back as 8,000 years.
Another interesting crag is Kapa – it offers potential for equipping very hard routes. There is a via ferrata on the last part of the path which leads directly to the plateau beneath the crag. This sector is one of the most spectacular climbing spots on the whole Adriatic coast. A worth of visit! The routes on this crag were equipped by Austrian climbers Joe Daxbacher and Ralph Haim.
Two smaller crags are located in the vicinity of nearby town of Orebić: Pržun and Hrid. Sector Pržun is better maintained. Due construction works from nearby restaurant some routes on Hrid sector maybe is not possible to climb.
