Description

🚶‍♂️ 5-10-20' - ⛰️ 1500 MSL - 🧭 NESW - ☀️ According to the boulder, but most of them are sunny

Sundergrund is by far one of the most popular bouldering areas of Zillertal, but what makes this place so beautiful? It is the alpine meadows, the freshness of the environment and the huge variety of boulder problems.
We are at about 1500 meters above sea level, inside a great valley with forests, streams and meadows. The approach to the boulders is easy and pleasant and even if it could be a bit long for the last area you will not find it tiring.
Sundergrund has over a hundred problems from easy ones (5/5+) to really hard stuff (up to 8B!). The area is suitable for kids.
The landings are generally really comfortable, but a brave climber could also find terrifying highballs.
Best seasons are from May to October. Please during spring pay attention to possible avalanches and do not underestimate the Summer storms.

Here something about Zillertal: one of the wildest valleys South of Inn in Tyrol and it is a great destination for climbing, thanks to the huge amount of bouldering and sport areas.
It is drained by the Ziller River and lies in the strongly glaciated Zillertal Alps. One can appreciate the view of the Tux Alps on the West, while the lower grass peaks of the Kitzbühel Alps on the East.
Among the other valleys in Tyrol, this one is the most visited by tourists and its largest settlement is Mayrhofen. What makes Zillertal one of the leading destinations in the Alps is its offer of a healthy mix of adventure, enjoyment and relaxation.

History

Sunderground boulder area has born in the 1999, when the crowd in the valley was really high. Honorable mentions of guys who did some of the hardest ascents: obviously Gerhard Horhager, Daniel Woods with American Gangster boulder problem and Much Mayr and Zlu Haller with their extreme highballs.
