Santuario is a climbing area made up of two former quarries located above the small village of Paitone, east of Brescia. The crag takes its name from the nearby Sanctuary of the Beata Vergine di Paitone, which you pass on the road to the climbing area.
The rock is a reddish limestone in both quarries and has been carefully cleaned thanks to the great effort of the bolting team. However, some loose holds may still be present, so wearing a helmet is strongly recommended.
The area is divided into two main quarries:
• Santuario Basso
Santuario Basso hosts 14 routes ranging from 6a to 7c. The hardest lines develop on an overhanging wall, offering athletic and powerful climbing.
A hangboard installed by local climbers is available at the base of the wall, making it easy to warm up properly before jumping on the routes.
With a south / south-west exposure, the wall receives plenty of sun starting from late morning, making this sector particularly suitable for winter climbing in the sun.
• Santuario Alto
Santuario Alto is a horseshoe-shaped quarry offering climbing on walls with different sun exposures, allowing flexibility depending on the season and time of day.
Santuario Alto – Pilastro: a small sector with just two routes around 5+, mostly shaded during the day. Pay attention to the anchors here.
Santuario Alto – Ovest: a grey, slabby wall rich in cracks, offering 8 routes from 5a to 7a+. The sector is shaded in the morning, making it a good choice for summer climbing earlier in the day.
Santuario Alto – Sud: the largest and probably most interesting sector, featuring 18 routes from 6a to 7b. It is particularly well suited to climbers operating in the 6th grade range. The reddish rock is not always compact, so extra attention is advised. Both long and shorter routes are available. With sun exposure for most of the day, this sector is best enjoyed in winter.
Santuario Alto – Est: this sector offers 6 powerful routes from 6b+ to 7b+, plus a few projects on a short yellow-red overhang. Some holds have been chipped. The wall is shaded in the afternoon.
The bases of all sectors are comfortable, and bolting is generally good and reliable. The parking area is adequate, and the approach is short and straightforward.
Santuario represents a valid alternative to the more crowded crags around Lake Garda, offering a quieter climbing experience while remaining close to the city.
After climbing, there’s plenty to explore nearby. We suggest taking some time to visit the sanctuary, then continue with a visit to Brescia’s historic center, just minutes away, where you’ll find the Roman Forum, the medieval castle, and the UNESCO-listed San Salvatore–Santa Giulia complex.
For a quieter break, walk the trails of the Virle Valley, green and peaceful even when the city is busy.
If you’re looking for water or more outdoor activities, Lake Garda is only 30–40 minutes away.

Santuario è un’area d'arrampicata ricavata da due ex cave situate sopra il piccolo borgo di Paitone, a est di Brescia. La falesia prende il nome dal vicino Santuario della Beata Vergine di Paitone, che si incontra percorrendo la strada verso i settori.
La roccia è un calcare rossastro in entrambe le cave ed è stata ripulita meticolosamente dai chiodatori. Tuttavia, potrebbero essere ancora presenti delle prese instabili, quindi l'uso del casco è caldamente raccomandato.
L'area è divisa in due cave principali:
• Santuario Basso
Il settore Santuario Basso è composto da 14 vie con gradi che vanno dal 6a al 7c. Le linee più dure si sviluppano su una parete strapiombante che offre un'arrampicata atletica e di forza.
Alla base della parete si trova un trave installato dai climber locali, ideale per scaldarsi a dovere prima di approcciare i tiri.
Il settore è esposto a sud / sud-ovest e riceve molto sole dalla tarda mattinata, rendendolo particolarmente adatto alle scalate invernali.
• Santuario Alto
Santuario Alto è una cava a ferro di cavallo che offre pareti con diverse esposizioni, garantendo flessibilità a seconda della stagione e dell'ora.
Santuario Alto – Pilastro: è un piccolo settore con solo due vie intorno al 5+, per lo più all'ombra durante il giorno. Attenzione alle soste in questo settore.
Santuario Alto – Ovest: una placca grigia ricca di fessure, con 8 vie dal 5a al 7a+. Il settore rimane in ombra al mattino, il che lo rende un'ottima scelta per l'estate nelle prime ore della giornata.
Santuario Alto – Sud: il settore più grande e probabilmente più interessante, con 18 vie dal 6a al 7b. È perfetto per chi arrampica sul sesto grado. La roccia rossa non è sempre compatta, quindi si consiglia prudenza. Sono presenti sia vie lunghe che tiri più brevi. Grazie all'esposizione al sole per gran parte della giornata, è l'ideale in inverno.
Santuario Alto – Est: offre 6 vie di forza dal 6b+ al 7b+, oltre ad alcuni progetti su un breve strapiombo giallo-rosso. Alcune prese sono state scavate. La parete va in ombra nel pomeriggio.
Le basi dei settori sono comode e la chiodatura è generalmente buona e affidabile. Il parcheggio è spazioso e l'avvicinamento è breve e semplice. Il Santuario rappresenta una valida alternativa alle falesie più affollate del Garda, offrendo un'esperienza più tranquilla pur rimanendo vicina alla città.
Dopo l'arrampicata, c'è molto da esplorare nei dintorni. Vi suggeriamo di dedicare un po' di tempo alla visita del santuario, per poi proseguire verso il centro storico di Brescia, a pochi minuti di distanza, dove troverete il Foro Romano, il castello medievale e il complesso di San Salvatore–Santa Giulia, patrimonio dell'UNESCO.
Per una pausa più tranquilla, potete percorrere i sentieri della Valle di Virle, un luogo verde e pacifico anche quando la città è affollata.
Se cercate l'acqua o altre attività all'aperto, il Lago di Garda si trova a soli 30–40 minuti di distanza.
