Since few years ago bolting became option this quite unique crag became interesting from climbers POV. Routes ending to a solid clue-in two bolt-chain anchors. Most of the routes include at least one bolt to secure parts where rock quality is too poor for natural protection. On Trad routes of "Sairaalanmäki" motto is more is better!!! So use plenty of traditional gear when you are on the lead. Be careful abseiling to install top ropes since top part of the cliff contains lots of loose rock and gravel. Be sure that also person next to you is wearing helmet! Enjoy qood variety Rapakivi routes at this fine crag in the heart of Kuusaa!
After climbing send treats you can visit nearby kiosk Chilla witch serves you snacks, soft ice creams, great burgers&drinks of your liking.
Developing of the crag and topo is on progress. So many of the future lines are not drawn into pictures. It's worth mentioning here that all the new routing is reserved!!!
Detached from the main cliff is large boulder called Vellikuppi. The name “Vellikuppi” itself comes from a place: a mysterious hiidenkirnu (giant’s kettle) located atop. Legend has it that this ancient geological formation was used by mythical beings to brew their magical potions.
First known climbers were bouldering the big block below the crag. They were climbing crumbly high balls on bad landings without pads! Those days there were no pads available. There is even aid climbing bong hammered in one of the crack to use for top roping anchor!?! That was early 90s. Since then "Sairaalanmäki" witch is called by locals, has been quiet place on the climbing front. Early 2000s Few daring climbers have been aiding, leading using trad gear or soloing there crumbly walls only coming to a conclusion that top part of the cliff is more than often too loose to top out. This second wave of climbers thought that bouldering was only reasonable option, developing more problems without knowing the earlier history of the crag. There are few good boulder problems including longish traverse along big ledge below pääsenäseinä.
