Description

Canyon San Nicolò, located near Buggerru, is easily accessible by car, with less than a 10-minute walk to the base. The canyon features various sectors, mostly with easy routes ranging from 4c to 6a, making it suitable for climbers of all levels. While there are a few harder routes, they are limited. The canyon is ideal for climbing during the winter and middle seasons, as it is exposed to the sun, providing warmth during colder months. However, in the summer, the sun can make it too hot, especially in the late afternoon when the shade arrives but the rock remains warm. The only sector that stays mostly in the shade and is more comfortable in summer is the Grotta dei nasi lunghi, a cave with superb overhanging routes, located at the top-left of the canyon.

Sectors in Canyon San Nicolò:

FICUS AREA: Located on the right side of the canyon as you enter, this sector is named after a large ficus tree beside the wall. The routes here range from 5b to 6b, though it’s not considered the best sector in the canyon.

LA TORRE: This is the first tall rock structure on the left side of the canyon. It features red overhanging rock and is equipped with two difficult routes: a 7b and a 7a+.

SA MESA: Probably the main sector of the canyon, located immediately after La Torre. It has a large number of routes, all of similar difficulty, mostly ranging from 5c to 6a.

WALL TO CLIMB: Located at the top of the scree in the center of the canyon, this sector features very high, easy routes ranging from 5b to 5c, with lengths of up to 35 meters.

GROTTA DEI NASI LUNGHI: A magnificent cave equipped with tough overhanging routes, offering a completely different style compared to the rest of the canyon. It is mostly shaded throughout the day, only receiving sun in the morning, making it a great option for any season. To reach the sector, you must walk up the scree and scramble to the base of the cave.
