When the Mostar heat hits hard, from May to September, escaping into the shade is a must — and this hidden gem delivers. Just 10 minutes north of the city, at the entrance to the wild Podružje canyon, lies a compact overhanging wave covered in sexy tufas — steep, flowy, and perfectly shady after 3 PM.
The wall may be small, but it packs a punch: 10–30° overhangs, athletic climbing in the upper 7th grades, and one technical line on the side for variety. Podružje canyon itself is worth the visit — a rugged 7 km stretch of pools, cascades, and waterfalls, walkable and wild. Add the Via Ferrata that runs through it, and you’ve got the perfect combo of climbing, exploring, and rest-day adventure.
When Vedran Ugljen and Petar Bekavac, crushers from the local ASPK Neretva club, came to see the canyon for the new Via Ferrata that was being built, Petar was amazed by the wall and saw the opportunity for summer climbing and a possibility for young local climbers to get there without the need of a car!
During the especially hellish summer of 2022, climbers of ASPK Neretva and SPK Blagaj, led by Petar Bekavac, spent many afternoons developing the new climbing area. Bolts were a donation from Petar, friends, SPK Blagaj, ASPK Neretva, Climbing Club Extreme Banja Luka, SPK Puls Jablanica, HPD Prenj 1933, and the City of Mostar. The mountaineering club HPD Prenj 1933 marked the hiking trail above the canyon, and Robert and Juliana Mencin, guides and Via Ferrata developers made the Via Ferrata that made the canyon accessible and more fun!
