Description

The bouldering in Herøy is mainly concentrated on Ytre Øksningan. Most of the rock is situated on a beautiful hillside with great view towards the ocean.

Rock quality is generally pretty good, with great friction without being sharp on the skin. Some boulders almost feel like sandstone. The whole area dries up quickly due to the exposure, altough some rocks may need a little more brushing.

This topo is just a fraction of the climbable rocks. The potential for easier problems and kid-friendly boulders is huge.

The sport climbing wall needs some brushing and new bolts. Climbing is at own risk. The exception is Evig Lys (7c). This route was rebolted and rebrushed in 2024 and is now safe to climb.

There is an anchor on the top of the wall that you can reach by walking around the cliff. From here you can rappell to access all the routes.

Have fun, and feel free to add topo suggestions!

History

Herøy is not known for its climbing/bouldering, but Asbjørn Moe actually established a lot of boulders at Øksningan in the 80's and 90's. Later Martin Haraldsen bruhed and established more.

Now the area is finally published, also driven by the young crushers "Peckford". They have also added some more and harder lines.

The publishment is an ongoing prosess and there is a lot of established boulders waiting to be added.
