Nibbio è una piccola frazione di Mergozzo posta ai piedi del selvaggio vallone omonimo; all'imbocco di questo ripido vallone sono presenti svariate strutture rocciose, più o meno solide, dove, ormai, sono stati tracciati più di un centinaio di percorsi di arrampicata.
Tralasciando gli storici settori abbandonati causa pericolo frane e caduta sassi, l'area è suddivisa in 5 settori principali: "La panoramica", "Cervinibbio", "Nibbiola", "Gioco di piedi" e "Il pilastro".
LA PANORAMICA:
Il settore (molto frequentato) che offre un maggior numero di tiri, quasi tutti facili e con gradazione decisamente soft, adatti a corsi e principianti, con possibilità di effettuare delle piccole prove di multipitch nel "settore alpinistico" (alpinistico di nome e di fatto, viste le numerose cenge lungo i tiri e la presenza di sassi e sassolini smossi qua e là). Le ascensioni si svolgono su placche appoggiate con prese enormi, creando una gestualità più simile a quella del gattonamento che non di arrampicata nel senso comune del termine.
La base è molto comoda e assolata, con area wc, il cui utilizzo è altamente auspicabile, vista l'elevata frequentazione della falesia.
Possibilità su alcuni tiri facili di mettere la corda in catena dal sentiero, per arrampicare da secondi: si prega, in tal caso, di utilizzare sempre propri rinvii o moschettoni per evitare di usurare il materiale in loco.
Inspiegabile l'elevatissima e, oggettivamente, molto brutta, presenza di frecce gialle colorate sulla roccia lungo i tiri; deprecabile usanza, anche perchè, visto il tenore della chiodatura, rassicurante e ravvicinata, risulta difficile perdersi: comunque, il rispetto della roccia dovrebbe essere il primo pensiero di ogni scalatore e chiodatore.
Ottima per l'inverno, ma frequentabile anche nelle altre stagioni, tendenzialmente nel tardo pomeriggio/sera quando non c'è il sole.
CERVINIBBIO:
Settore facilmente individuabile anche da lontano che, per la forma triangolare, ricorda vagamente il Cervino.
Le vie sono nel complesso divertenti, facili e ben appigliate; la chiodatura estremamente (troppo) ravvicinata e poco bella a vedersi; la gradazione decisamente soft. Scalare qui sul sesto o settimo grado, non significa poterlo fare nel mondo reale dell'arrampicata.
La qualità della roccia è migliorata col tempo e la frequentazione, ma si suggerisce di porre sempre attenzione.
L'esposizione consente di scalare sia in inverno nelle ore centrali della giornata, sia nelle altre stagioni sfruttando la mattina presto o il pomeriggio quando non c'è il sole. Base comoda.
NIBBIOLA:
L'unico settore con esposizione nord-ovest e quindi maggiormente adatto all'estate e alle mezze stagioni; avvicinamento molto veloce.
Vista anche la brevità dei tiri, è perfetto nelle occasioni in cui si ha poco tempo a disposizione.
L'arrampicata si svolge su muri leggermente abbattuti ricchi di buone prese, con la presenza di qualche fessura e diedro.
Anche questo settore risulta decisamente adatto a principianti, bambini e corsi. Base comoda.
GIOCO DI PIEDI:
Storico settore di placca che offre un'arrampicata molto tecnica sui piedi.
La roccia ha un buon grip e la chiodatura è stata complessivamente rivista (anche se in alcuni punti permangono spit obsoleti) grazie al lavoro di Fulvio Epifani e Alberto Giovanola.
Consigliato portarsi dietro delle cesoie da giardinaggio per domare eventuali rovi alla base.
Possibilità di scalare un po' tutto l'anno, in base a ombra e sole.
IL PILASTRO:
Alto circa 80 metri, questo settore presenta una manciata di vie storiche su ottima roccia.
La base è una cengia scomoda che tende a vegetarsi; consigliato anche qui portarsi dietro cesoie da giardinaggio, anche, eventualmente, per i rovi che crescono lungo l'avvicinamento.
Meglio evitare i periodi più caldi.
Vista la qualità della roccia non eccelsa, nonostante i tiri siano stati ormai parecchio ripetuti e ripuliti, si consiglia, in ogni settore, l'utilizzo del caschetto e, in generale, di prestare particolare attenzione, sopratutto dopo le piogge.
Le pareti asciugano abbastanza rapidamente.

Nibbio is a small hamlet of Mergozzo located at the foot of the wild valley of the same name; at the mouth of this steep valley there are various rock structures, more or less solid, where, by now, over a hundred climbing routes have been traced.
Leaving aside the historic sectors abandoned due to the danger of landslides and falling rocks, the area is divided into 5 main sectors: "la Panoramica", "Cervinibbio", "Nibbiola", "Gioco di piedi" and "il pilastro".
LA PANORAMICA:
The sector (very popular) offers the most routes, almost all easy and with a decidedly soft grading, suitable for courses and beginners, with the possibility of doing small multi-pitches in the "settore alpinistico" (alpine in name and fact, given the numerous ledges along the routes and the presence of loose rock and pebbles here and there). The ascents take place on leaning slabs with huge holds, creating a movement more similar to crawling than climbing in the common sense of the term.
The base is very comfortable and sunny, with a WC area, which is highly recommended, given the high attendance of the crag.
On some easy routes it's possible to put the top-rope from the trail, to climb as a second: in this case, please use your own quickdraws or carabiners to avoid wearing out the equipment on site.
Unexplained the extremely high and, objectively, very ugly, presence of yellow arrows painted on the rock along the routes; a deplorable habit, also because, given the type of bolting, reassuring and close, it's hard to get lost: anyway, respect for the rock should be the first thought of every climber and bolter.
Great for winter, but can be even visited in other seasons, tipically in the late afternoon/evening when there's no sun.
CERVINIBBIO:
The sector is easily identifiable even from a distance: its triangular shape vaguely resembles the Matterhorn.
The routes are generally fun, easy, and with good holds; the bolting is extremely (too) close and not very pleasant to look at; the grades are decidedly soft. Climbing here at the sixth or seventh grade doesn't mean you can do it in the real climbing world.
The quality of the rock has improved over time and with attendance, but it's always suggested to be careful.
The exposure allows climbing in winter during the central hours of the day, and in other seasons taking advantage of early morning or afternoon when there's no sun. Comfortable base.
NIBBIOLA:
The only sector with a northwest exposure, making it suitable for summer and shoulder seasons; very fast approach.
Given the short route, it's perfect for when you have little time.
Climbing takes place on slightly inclined walls with good holds and with some cracks and dihedrals.
Also this sector is great for beginners, kids and courses. Comfortable base.
GIOCO DI PIEDI:
Historic slab sector offering very technical footwork climbing.
The rock has good grip and the bolting has been largely revised (although some obsolete spits remain) thanks to the work of F. Epifani and A. Giovanola.
Recommended to bring garden shears to tame any brambles at the base.
Can be climbed almost all year, depending on shade and sun.
IL PILASTRO:
About 80 meters high, this sector features a handful of historic routes on excellent rock.
The base is an uncomfortable ledge that tends to get overgrown; recommended to bring garden shears here too, also for the brambles along the approach.
Best avoided in the hottest periods.
Given the not excellent rock quality, despite the routes being repeated and cleaned, it's recommended to wear a helmet in every sector, and to be particularly careful, especially after rain.
The walls dry fairly quickly.
