⛰️Montestrutto is an exceptionally convenient crag: a large grassy area at the base provides a perfect spot to relax, have a picnic, or spend time with family in total tranquility. This green space makes the environment especially welcoming even for non-climbers. Additionally, the proximity to a bar and parking area makes it one of the most accessible and appreciated crags in the region, particularly ideal for quick day trips or for those looking for simple logistics.
The rock, dark in color, tends to heat up significantly under the sun. For this reason, climbing is often unpleasant during the summer, especially in the central hours of the day, due to the south-west exposure and the rock's heat retention. In cooler seasons, however, this orientation provides excellent thermal comfort.
The sectors are well organized and clearly separated, yet they remain easily connected to one another via stone stairways or, in one case, a short equipped via ferrata. Most routes are of easy to moderate grade, making the area suitable for beginners or those looking for a relaxed climbing day. However, a couple of sectors offer more challenging lines, with routes above the 7th grade, ideal for those seeking a tougher challenge.
One important safety note: some sectors are located on narrow and exposed terraces. Caution is essential when moving around, especially when accompanied by children or pets, to avoid the risk of falling.

⛰️Montestrutto è una falesia a dir poco comoda: un ampio prato alla base offre la possibilità di rilassarsi, fare picnic o trascorrere del tempo con la famiglia in totale tranquillità. Questo spazio verde rende l’ambiente particolarmente accogliente anche per chi non arrampica. Inoltre, la vicinanza al bar e al parcheggio la rende una delle falesie più accessibili e apprezzate della regione, soprattutto per le giornate mordi e fuggi o per chi cerca una logistica semplice.
La roccia, di colore scuro, tende a scaldarsi parecchio sotto il sole. Per questo motivo, durante l’estate l’esposizione a sud-ovest, unita alla colorazione della parete, rende l’arrampicata poco piacevole nelle ore centrali della giornata. Nelle stagioni più fresche, invece, questo orientamento garantisce un ottimo comfort termico.
I settori sono ben organizzati e suddivisi, ma restano comunque comodamente collegati tra loro tramite scalinate in pietra o, in un caso, una breve ferrata attrezzata. Le vie presenti sono in gran parte di grado facile o medio, adatte quindi anche a chi è alle prime esperienze. Tuttavia, non mancano un paio di settori che propongono linee più impegnative, con tiri che superano il settimo grado, pensati per chi cerca una sfida maggiore.
Un aspetto da non sottovalutare riguarda la sicurezza: alcuni settori si trovano su terrazzamenti piuttosto esposti. È quindi fondamentale prestare attenzione agli spostamenti, soprattutto se si è in compagnia di bambini o animali, per evitare rischi di caduta

⏪⌚La storia dell’arrampicata a Montestrutto inizia negli anni ’70, con le prime salite sulle pareti più grandi, affrontate però esclusivamente con mezzi artificiali. I protagonisti di queste prime esplorazioni furono alcuni arrampicatori locali come Silvio Mantuan, Silvano Guidolin, Mario Stella e altri della zona.
Negli anni ’80 l’area venne utilizzata sporadicamente in ottica boulder per gli allenamenti, con qualche appiglio tracciato sulle pareti e pochi tiri a spit, ma senza un vero sviluppo organico della falesia.
È solo nel 2008 che Montestrutto compie un vero salto di qualità: grazie a un progetto del Comune di Settimo Vittone, sostenuto dal negozio XL Mountain e dal gruppo delle guide del Gran Paradiso, nasce un'iniziativa di valorizzazione che trasforma Montestrutto in una vera meta di arrampicata sportiva. Le pareti — alcune delle quali superano gli 80 metri d’altezza — si rivelano adatte a un’arrampicata tecnica su placche e muri ben lavorati.
Nel 2011 la falesia si amplia ulteriormente, con la chiodatura di nuove vie e l’apertura di settori aggiuntivi, come il Frangivento, consolidando così l’importanza dell’area nel panorama arrampicatorio piemontese.

⏪⌚The history of climbing at Montestrutto begins in the 1970s, with the first ascents of the larger walls—though these were tackled exclusively using artificial aid. The pioneers of these early explorations were local climbers such as Silvio Mantuan, Silvano Guidolin, Mario Stella, and others from the area.
In the 1980s, the crag was occasionally used as a bouldering and training spot, with a few holds marked on the rock and some routes equipped with bolts, but it never saw significant development at that time.
It wasn’t until 2008 that Montestrutto truly began to evolve. Thanks to a project initiated by the Municipality of Settimo Vittone, supported by the outdoor shop XL Mountain and the mountain guides of Gran Paradiso, a new initiative brought the crag to life as a proper sport climbing destination. The walls—some of which reach heights of over 80 meters—proved ideal for technical climbing on well-featured slabs and vertical faces.
In 2011, the climbing area expanded further, with the bolting of new routes and the addition of new sectors, such as Frangivento, further establishing Montestrutto as an important site in the Piedmont climbing scene.
