Located in the heart of the beautiful Val di Non, Marino Stenico is a hidden gem and an ideal summer climbing destination, just a stone’s throw from Lake Smeraldo and the village of Fondo.
The crag enjoys a peaceful alpine atmosphere, nestled in a cool, shaded pine forest and set at an altitude of over 1100 meters.
The crag offering consists of over 40 routes ranging mostly in the 6th and 7th grades. A few easier lines around grade 3 provide a gentle introduction for beginners, while more seasoned climbers will find challenging routes up to 7c. Climbing is technical on vertical walls with crimps and pockets. Some short overhanging sections add variety, offering pumpy climbs where endurance is key.
The north-facing wall stays in the shade all day, and the altitude ensures cool and pleasant conditions, making it a perfect refuge from the summer heat.
The approach is short and easy, and the crag base is well-maintained, with benches and flat areas that are suitable for families and children. The bolting is modern, safe, and reliable, with just a few historical lines still equipped with large cemented bolts, which remain secure.
After your climbing session, don’t miss a visit to Lake Smeraldo, ideal for a refreshing swim or a relaxing break. The nearby village of Fondo offers plenty of bars, pizzerias, and snack options. For a unique experience, explore the nearby Rio Sass Canyon, a stunning natural gorge that's definitely worth a detour (see in the photos).

Ci troviamo nella bellissima Val di Non, e abbiamo appena scoperto una splendida meta estiva per l’arrampicata, a due passi dal Lago Smeraldo e dal paese di Fondo.
La falesia è immersa in un contesto alpino tranquillo, all’ombra di una fresca pineta a oltre 1100 metri di altitudine.
Offre più di 40 vie, concentrate principalmente nei gradi 6 e 7. Alcuni itinerari più facili attorno al grado 3 sono ideali per i primi approcci all’arrampicata, mentre per i più esperti ci sono linee impegnative fino al 7c. Lo stile è generalmente tecnico su muri verticali, con tacche e buchi, ma non mancano sezioni strapiombanti dove la resistenza fa la differenza.
La parete è esposta a nord, rimane all’ombra tutto il giorno e l’altitudine garantisce condizioni fresche e piacevoli, rendendola un perfetto rifugio estivo.
L’avvicinamento è breve e semplice, e la base della parete è comoda, con panchine e spazi pianeggianti, adatti anche a famiglie con bambini.
L’attrezzatura è moderna, sicura e affidabile, con solo alcune vie storiche che presentano ancora grossi spit cementati, comunque ancora solidi e sicuri.
Dopo l’arrampicata, non perderti una visita al Lago Smeraldo, perfetto per un bagno rinfrescante o una pausa rilassante. Il vicino paese di Fondo offre numerosi bar, pizzerie e locali per uno spuntino. Per un’esperienza diversa, vale la pena visitare anche il Canyon Rio Sass, una gola naturale mozzafiato (vedi foto).
