⛰️The Maccione area, in the territory of Oliena, is one of the most beautiful and diverse climbing zones in the region. It offers a wide range of routes, from easier grades to more demanding lines, making it suitable for climbers of all levels.
At the parking area there is a fountain, an important landmark also used by local residents of Oliena to collect water. The approach trails to the various sectors are clean and well maintained; most of the upkeep is carried out by the Senis cooperative, which plays a key role in keeping the area accessible and in excellent condition.
There is also an accommodation facility nearby that operates as a hotel, restaurant, and mountain lodge. This provides a valuable base for those staying multiple days, offering the possibility to eat, rest, and even wash up after climbing.

The climbing is predominantly technical, on high-quality rock, set in a truly striking and scenic natural environment. With convenient parking at the start of the trails, Maccione combines strong logistical support, beautiful surroundings, and consistently good climbing.

⛰️La zona di Maccione, nel territorio di Oliena, è una delle aree più belle e complete della regione: varia, articolata e adatta a un ampio spettro di arrampicatori, con vie che spaziano dai gradi più facili fino a difficoltà sostenute.
Al parcheggio è presente una fontana, punto di riferimento importante anche per i locali di Oliena, che qui si riforniscono d’acqua. I sentieri di accesso ai vari settori sono ben tracciati e mantenuti in ottimo stato; la manutenzione è svolta in gran parte dalla cooperativa Senis, realtà attiva sul territorio che contribuisce in modo concreto alla fruibilità dell’area.
Nella zona è presente anche una struttura ricettiva che funge da hotel, ristorante e rifugio: un servizio prezioso per chi desidera fermarsi più giorni, mangiare in loco o semplicemente avere un punto di appoggio confortevole dopo la scalata.

L’arrampicata è prevalentemente tecnica, su roccia di qualità, in un ambiente naturale particolarmente suggestivo e panoramico. L’area parcheggio all’inizio del sentiero rende la logistica comoda e funzionale, completando un contesto che unisce bellezza paesaggistica, organizzazione e qualità della scalata.

⏪⌚The history of the area begins in the 1980s, when Fele, Garippa, Fancello, Poddi, and Palimode established the first routes around the main crags, laying the foundations for sport climbing in the zone.
After this pioneering phase, development continued in a more structured way. Around 2020, Boi gave the area a significant new impulse, expanding existing sectors and developing additional walls nearby. This phase contributed to modernizing the protection and substantially increasing the number of available routes.
Since then, growth has not stopped. The area is still evolving today, with new routes currently being bolted and further potential yet to be explored. Its history is therefore an ongoing process—one that began over forty years ago and continues to develop.

⏪⌚La storia dell’area inizia negli anni Ottanta, quando Fele, Garippa, Fancello, Poddi e Palimode attrezzano le prime vie intorno alle falesie principali, ponendo le basi dell’arrampicata sportiva nella zona.
Dopo questa fase pionieristica, lo sviluppo prosegue in modo più strutturato. Intorno al 2020, Boi imprime un nuovo e significativo impulso all’area, ampliando i settori esistenti e valorizzando nuove pareti nei dintorni. Questo intervento contribuisce a modernizzare l’attrezzatura e ad aumentare in modo consistente il numero delle linee disponibili.
Da allora la crescita non si è arrestata: la zona è tuttora in evoluzione, con nuovi tiri in fase di chiodatura e un potenziale ancora parzialmente inesplorato. La storia dell’area è quindi un percorso continuo, iniziato oltre quarant’anni fa e ancora oggi in pieno sviluppo.
