Description

🌍 Alpine bouldering destination in the beautiful valley Leirskardalen. Perfect for hot summer days when it’s too warm in the lowlands. The season ranges typically from late July until the first snowfall in early October. The crag is located at the beginning of the hike to the popular tourist destination Rabothytta.

🪨 The boulders are free standing rocks in various rock quality. There is still potential for finding more lines in the entire valley, but there may be some distance between the best boulders. There is little vegetation around the boulders, which makes them dry up quickly, and many of the lines require little to no brushing.

👶 The crag is mostly child friendly, with spacious areas between the boulders and mostly flat terrain. It might be challenging to bring a stroller because of a steep hill from the parking space to the main area of the crag.

⚠️ Caution: Rockfall occur in the valley, especially in springtime.

🅿️ There is a big parking space close to the crag, where you can park for free. Early in the season the parking may not be available due to snow. Approach time to the first boulders ranges from 2-10 minutes. It is possible to camp in the area with tents or campers. There are no toilet facilities in the valley – be kind to leave no trace.

History

There have been people bouldering in Leirskardalen sporadically for years, but the area has not seen too much activity for a long time. A Facebook post with a rumour about the most beautiful 6B/6C-line sparked life into the crag, and a few eager boulderers had to check it out. The line was rediscovered and repeated in 2021, where it got the name “Nord-Norgebanen” and the grade 6B+. The crag saw a new boost after a hot summer in 2023, where it ended up with more than 20 new lines.
