Description

This zone basically comprises of just two sectors: the ‘main’ crag and L’Antepauta. The main crag was originally developed back in the late 1980s but subsequently received little attention, with the inevitable result that it gradually fell into disuse, and by the late 1990s the routes had become dirty again and the approach paths all but impassable. In 2007 a small group of local climbers re-opened the paths, cleaned and re-equipped the older routes and then went on to add a surprising number of new ones. The cliff has now been returned to its former glory and offers superb climbing on compact vertical rock, at its best on sunny mid-winter days. Sector Antepauta was developed more recently and although it may not quite meet the standards of excellence set by the main cliff it is still worth a visit, particularly on afternoons and evenings in warm weather, when its easterly orientation provides welcome shade.

🧗‍♂️ La Pauta:
A beautiful sector in a beautiful location! The rock is mostly impeccable and the climbing technical and interesting. Orientation: south.

Approach: From the town of Artesa de Segre follow signposts to the small village of Baldomar (5km). Once inside the village, turn sharply right onto a narrow road signposted La Clua. Follow this for approximately 4.5km then turn left onto an unsurfaced track signposted Vall d’Ariet / Petjades Dinosaures. Pass the parking area for sector Antepauta after 400m and then continue driving for a further 1.5km (ignoring a left-fork signposted Ermita Sant Bartomeu, and then passing a ruined house) to park just before a rightwards hairpin bend (P2). From here the sector is clearly visible on the left. Follow a well-marked path across wooded slopes to the base of the wall (10 minutes).
