Driving up the wild Valgrisenche valley, it’s impossible for a climber’s eye to miss La Confession: the roadside crag stands in full view, inviting a stop.
The crag offers about 15 routes, ranging from 5c to 7c, divided between two walls close to each other. Climbing here is typically fingery, on crisp crimps with decent footholds.
• The right-hand wall has excellent rock quality and hosts the harder lines, mostly on vertical faces with some slightly overhanging sections.
• The left-hand wall is more slabby; while the rock is not quite as perfect, it still provides enjoyable and solid climbing.
The crag receives plenty of sun in the late central hours of the day, making it an excellent mid-season destination. Accessibility couldn’t be easier: the approach is essentially zero, with a comfortable base right by the road. The downside is some noise from traffic, but the quality of climbing more than makes up for it.
Climbing at La Confession is also a chance to discover the Valgrisenche valley, one of the wildest and least crowded corners of the Aosta Valley. Surrounded by larch forests, alpine lakes, and soaring peaks, the valley has preserved its authentic mountain character. Small hamlets with stone houses and slate roofs dot the landscape, offering a glimpse of traditional alpine life. Beyond climbing, Valgrisenche is a paradise for hiking, ski touring, and simply enjoying peace and nature far from the busier parts of the region.

Durante il viaggio in auto nella selvaggia Valgrisenche, è impossibile che l'occhio di un climber non noti La Confession: visibile dalla strada, la falesia chiama a gran voce, invitando a una breve sosta.
La falesia offre circa 15 vie, dal 5c al 7c, distribuite su due settori vicini. L'arrampicata è prevalentemente tecnica e di dita, su tacche nette con buoni appoggi per i piedi.
• Il settore di destra ha un'ottima qualità della roccia e ospita le vie più dure, per lo più su placche verticali con qualche sezione leggermente strapiombante.
• Il settore di sinistra è più appoggiato; anche se la roccia non è perfetta come nell'altro, offre comunque un'arrampicata piacevole e solida.
La falesia è accarezzata dal sole nelle ore centrali del giorno, un'ottima destinazione per le mezze stagioni. L'avvicinamento è praticamente nullo, con una comoda base proprio accanto alla strada. Lo svantaggio è un po' di rumore dovuto al traffico, ma la qualità dell'arrampicata compensa ampiamente questo aspetto.
Arrampicare a La Confession è anche un'opportunità per scoprire la Valgrisenche, una delle valli più selvagge e meno affollate della Valle d'Aosta. Circondata da boschi di larici, laghi alpini e vette imponenti, la valle ha conservato il suo autentico carattere montano. Piccoli borghi con case in pietra e tetti in lose punteggiano il paesaggio, offrendo uno spaccato della vita alpina tradizionale. Oltre all'arrampicata, la Valgrisenche è un paradiso per l'escursionismo, lo sci alpinismo e per chi cerca pace e natura lontano dai luoghi più frequentati della regione.
