Imponente parete che, dall'altra parte della valle, sovrasta l'abitato di Premia.
L'avvicinamento più lungo del solito (ma su una bellissima mulattiera), la difficoltà dell'arrampicata e l'impegno richiesto, non ne fanno un luogo per chiunque: i tiri, su ogni grado, sono tutti esigenti e di difficile lettura, richiedendo una certa dedizione; ma coloro i quali vorranno mettersi in gioco, qui troveranno sicure soddisfazioni nonchè un posto estremamente tranquillo e piacevole (la base della falesia infatti, terminata la camminata, è assolutamente comoda e confortevole).
Nonostante non tutti ne apprezzino la roccia, tra le falesie ossolane, la Barriera risulta sicuramente essere la migliore, come qualità e quantità di tiri, per il livello medio alto: numerose sono le vie di settimo e ottavo grado, che offrono un'arrampicata mai banale, nè scontata o ripetitiva: ogni linea è un pezzo unico.
Data l'esposizione e l'altitudine, la logistica non è semplicissima: al mattino presto la roccia risente abbastanza dell'umidità; inoltre il sole esce alle 15, quindi, in piena estate, nelle giornate terse e calde, bisogna considerare di non avere tutta la giornata disponibile; d'altro canto, nella mezza stagione, vista l'altitudine e la ventilazione del luogo, non è raro che faccia piuttosto freddo.
Il venticello, che si alza generalmente dopo le 13, è abbastanza una costante della falesia, garantendo spessissimo una finestra di buone condizioni (in generale, nel dubbio, meglio portare sempre da coprirsi).
Si scala tranquillamente con pioggia (ovviamente, vista la meteopaticità della roccia, senza essere schizzinosi sulle condizioni e avere troppe pretese in merito), anche forte: tutta la parete è completamente riparata da un enorme tetto sovrastante. L'unico bagnato che si può trovare in parete, in primavera e a volte fino all'estate in base alle precipitazioni invernali e primaverili, è sulla roccia nera, dato dalle colate d'acqua per infiltrazione.
La Barriera non è un posto per lamentosi di sorta; non è un posto per cacciatori di grado o per chi vuole la pappa pronta, nè per chi vuole tutto e subito o facili traguardi; la Barriera è per chi, ancora, scala per corteggiare linee e tiri, per chi apprezza la difficoltà e la ricerca dei movimenti, per chi preferisce stare lontano dalle masse e dall'omologazione di vie e falesie commerciali: se appartenete a questa categoria, la Barriera vi attende.
In caso ce ne fosse bisogno, si ricorda di rispettare il posto e la sua tranquillità, nonchè il lavoro qui svolto dai chiodatori e valorizzatori; pulire e spazzolare le prese; non lasciare, ovviamente, immondizia in giro e, cortesemente, NON accendere fuochi.

Impressive wall that, from the other side of the valley, towers over the village of Premia.
A longer approach than usual (but on a beautiful mule track), the difficulty of the climbing and the commitment required, do not make it a place for everyone: the routes, on every grade, are all demanding and difficult to read, requiring a certain dedication; but those who want to take on the challenge will find sure satisfaction as well as an extremely quiet and pleasant place (the base of the cliff, after the hike, is absolutely comfortable and cozy).
Despite not everyone appreciating the rock, among the Ossola crags, Barriera is certainly the best, in terms of quality and quantity of pitches, for the medium-high level: there are numerous routes of 7th and 8th grade, which offer a climb that is never dull, predictable or repetitive: every line is a unique piece.
Due to the exposure and altitude, the logistics are not straightforward: in the early morning the rock is quite affected by humidity; moreover, the sun comes out at 3 p.m., so, in the middle of summer, on clear and hot days, it's necessary to consider not having the whole day available; on the other hand, in the shoulder season, given the altitude and ventilation of the place, it's not uncommon for it to be quite cold.
The gentle breeze, which usually starts after 1 p.m., is quite a constant feature of the cliff, often guaranteeing a window of good conditions (in general, when in doubt, it's better to always bring something to cover up).
You can climb safely even in heavy rain (obviously, due to the rock's sensitivity to weather conditions, without being too picky about the grip and having too many expectations): the entire wall is completely protected by a huge roof. The only wet areas you might find on the wall, in spring and sometimes early summer,(depending on the amount of winter and spring precipitation), is on the black rock, due to water seepage.
Barriera is not a place for those who complain about everything; it isn't for grade chasers or for those who want everything handed to them on a silver platter, nor for those who expect instant gratification or easy victories; Barriera is for those who still climb to court the lines and routes, for those who appreciate the challenge and the pursuit of movements, for those who prefer to stay away from the crowds and the homogenization of commercial climbs and crags: if you belong to this category, Barriera awaits you,
