Description

Korouoma is an impressive 30-kilometre canyon. At its deepest the gorge is approximately 100-130 metres deep. The bottom of this canyon is level and it is 200 to 500 metres wide. Cliffs are up to ~60m high.

For rock climbing sector Pirunkirkko offers (very) steep sport climbing for the 6c-8a grade. On other sectors trad is often adventurous. Korouoma is also the ice & mixed climbing mecca of Finland - see Korouoma Winter topo for that.

Coarse red granite, which tends to split and crack.

📅 Season for rock climbing: About June-September/October. Note the access info with climbing restriction.

🦟 warning: Lots of mosquitos, you must have long clothing with mosquito hat to survive here in best summer (about Mid June to August).

📚 Topo book "Korouoma – Kiipeilyopas rotkolaaksoon" shows highlights, including most/all summer climbing. Published in 2024. Find it in Väki Rovaniemi, Camu, Treeline etc.

🏊 Swimming possible in River Korojoki.
