Posta sullo stesso versante di Croveo classica e da essa non lontana, la falesia del Fognone è un'ottima alternativa per i freddi mesi invernali nelle giornate belle e terse (quantunque ci si possa scalare anche nelle giornate non troppo calde delle mezze stagioni).
La base è una magnifica e comoda terrazza panoramica sovrastante la vallata e l'abitato di Croveo, cui si accede con breve e piacevole passeggiata.
L'arrampicata si svolge prevalentemente su muri verticali e leggermente strapiombanti tagliati, in alcuni punti, da brevi tetti.
I tiri non sono lunghi ma alcuni risultano comunque essere piuttosto di resistenza; altri, viceversa, offrono sezioni boulderose e intense sulle dita.
La roccia è uno gneiss di ottima qualità, nero e grigio, con colate bianche e arancioni che rendono la parete decisamente estetica.
Le parti nere, dopo periodi di pioggia e neve, tendono a colare, ma alcuni tiri resistono bene al bagnato; comunque, nel complesso, col sole la falesia asciuga più velocemente di quello che si sarebbe portati a credere!
Il posto vale assolutamente una o più visite, sopratutto da parte di chi vuole un po' più di tranquillità rispetto alla vicina falesia di Croveo classica.

Located on the same side as Croveo classica and not far from it, Fognone crag is a great alternative for cold winter months on clear days (although it's also climbable on not too warm days in the shoulder season).
The base is a magnificent and comfortable panoramic terrace overlooking the valley and the village of Croveo, accessible with a short and pleasant walk.
The climbing takes place mainly on vertical and slightly overhanging walls, cut in some points by short roofs.
The routes aren't long but some are quite endurance-oriented; others, on the other hand, offer bouldery and finger-intensive sections.
The rock is a high-quality gneiss, black and grey, with white and orange streaks that make the wall quite aesthetic.
The black parts tend to drip after periods of rain and snow, but some routes hold up well when wet; overall, though, with sun the crag dries faster than you'd think.
The place is definitely worth one or more visits, especially for those looking for a bit more tranquillity compared to the nearby Croveo classica crag.

I primi tiri, circa una decina, su questa bella parete, vennero tracciati già negli anni '90 da Luca Sinigiani e Fabrizio Agosti.
Poco frequentata e mai resa pubblica per più di vent'anni, ha dovuto aspettare il 2022 per vedere la sua meritata valorizzazione.
Infatti è a partire da quell'anno che Alessandro Manini, Enrico Serino e lo stesso Sinigiani, iniziano a rimettere mano a questo meritevole muro, ampliando notevolmente il numero di tiri presenti e alzando anche decisamente l'asticella della difficoltà: Manini, storico climber di alto livello ossolano, libera vie fino all 8a+/b, oltre a chiodare altri progetti duri, tra cui, in particolare, "Red carpet", un'esteticissima linea che segue una colata di roccia arancione che verrà liberata da A. Bassini nella sua versione logica e senza prese obbligate.

The first routes, about ten, on this beautiful wall, were already traced in the 90s by Luca Sinigiani and Fabrizio Agosti.
Little frequented and never made public for over twenty years, it had to wait until 2022 to see its well-deserved development.
In fact, it's from that year that Alessandro Manini, Enrico Serino and Sinigiani himself start working on this deserving wall again, significantly expanding the number of the routes and raising the difficulty bar: Manini, a historic high-level Ossola climber, frees routes up to 8a+/b, as well as bolting other tough projects, including, in particular, "Red carpet", a very aesthetic line following an orange rock streak that will be freed by A. Bassini in its logical version without forced holds.
