Gura Humorului is the nearest town close to the crag. It is a valley walled by mellow hills covered in fir, spruce and beech forests with many amenities including a nice swimming pool, mtb trails a ski slope and many other tourist attractions.
The town sits close to many sandstone crags, some unexplored, some recently developed as potential quality bouldering and sport climbing spots.
The area has been an important cultural and religious place since the middle ages therefore there are many Monasteries dating back to the 15th and 16th century so there are a few things to explore if you find yourself staying here.
For now there are three main sectors: "Pietrele Doamnei" - the furthest from the town, up on a hill, "Piatra Soimului"- just 15 minutes from the main park and swiming pool, "Cotu Buhii" - easieast access from the main European Road, but farther from the city centre. The last is "Voronet" and it is not fully developed due to hard access.
Most of the easy lines have been climbed but there are plenty of aesthetique lines waiting to be cleaned and FAd.
The climbing in the area has started with a small community mainly focused on sport climbing. They have bolted the first sport routes in 2009-2010 on sandstone, at the "Piatra Pinului", very close to the city center. The main sector: "Pietrele Doamnei" has been known by locals but not exploited fully as a climbing spot. A few top ropes and some traverses were done until 2014 when the first easy and evident boulders where cleaned and climbed.
in 2015 more experienced climbers have opened harder routes in two different sectors and found potential for further climbing.
In 2019-2020, the local climbers have started cleaning boulders, making trails and falling platforms, investing a serious amount of time and work to make bouldering safer. On top of that they recleaned some lines at Cotu Buhii and discovered many other boulders.
in 2020 the crags have been welcoming climbers from Romania and is now a likeable spot for close by climbers to come, repeat and open new lines.
