Garda is the pearl of the crags near lake Garda. It is located on mount Luppia, at the end of the Baldo rocky belt, and faces directly the south-eastern shore of the lake. The landscape from the crag is really stunning, you will fall in love with this crag! From the top of the routes it is possible to admire the bay and the medieval hermitage of Camaldolesi, the cliff of Manerba and the cities of Bardolino and Peschiera. The environment is very reminiscent of the Amalfi and Liguria coasts.

But what about climbing? Garda offers over 100 routes from 4 to 8a spreaded into 3 sectors. Garda Alta sector is the biggest sector with 60+ routes from the fifth grade to 7c and some harder projects. Almost all of them are short and quite bouldery on vertical walls of nice limestone. On the left side of the sector there is a beautiful cave with a tens of overhanging lines. It may seem absurd, but the difficulties here are not so high. Test your skills on their jugs! Metoga and Parete dei sogni are old school sectors. Challenging vertical long slabs rule here.
Having good technique and finger strength are important requirements to better appreciate the climbing in Garda. Except for Metoga sector, the walls are generally scattered along exposed ledges and face south-east. These spots are not recommended for children, but they are one of the best choices for cold sunny winter days thanks to the mild temperatures. Metoga base is clean and comfortable. Even if the crag is a bit aged, the equipment of the routes is generally good. There are only few lines that were un-bolted or have bad protections, but we reported them in the topo.

The beautiful area of Garda absolutely deserves a visit. In addition to the climbing, there are nice
attractions and good restaurants in the nearby cities, the lake is very close and there are also some a thermal spas. Consider taking a boat trip on the lake to fully enjoy your vacation!

History

Garda Alta was discovered and equipped by Cipriani, then a tens of years later was expanded by Gigi Pinamonte. There are also some brand new lines, that were equipped in the last period of time. Metoga and Parete dei Sogni were set up by Sergio Coltri, who was looking for a good training wall for the alpinistic lines of the dolomites.
