Description

Team Pahadi Bakra, as part of the Chhattisgarh Climbing Initiative (CCI), has developed the "Deshdekha Climbing Sector" (DCS). CCI is a grassroots movement aimed at developing the untouched areas for the adventure sport in the state. DCS is its inaugural project, supported by the expertise of some of the nation's finest climbers and route-setters.

The region features all forms of climbing, including bouldering, sport climbing, and traditional multipitch routes—a rare combination of natural terrain features in India. The location itself is a spectacle. Situated atop a hill in Jashpur, DCS offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. From the top, you can take in a panoramic view of Jashpur and the Mayali Dam, which appears pristine from this breathtaking point. The lush green ground merges seamlessly with the blue sky, creating a serene ambiance that intensifies during the monsoon. Wet days bring out the full beauty of the area, making the experience even more rewarding.

For those new to the area, hiring a knowledgeable local guide is highly recommended. If you wish to log a new climb, suggest updates, or purchase a printed copy of the guidebook, contact us on info@pahadibakra.com.

History

The term "Deshdekha" (which means "watching over the country") comes from the fact that an ancient tribal king used to watch over his entire realm and enemy activity from this same location. Tribes surround this location, and some of them were directly ruled by the President.

Around June 2018, when the Pahadi Bakra team made their initial visit, climbing here began. Since then, it has evolved into the hub of climbing in and around Jashpur. The crew was finally able to develop the region in 2023 with the assistance of the local authorities.

Beginning in July 2023, it is available to the general public for climbing.
