⛰️Chighizzu is a crag located very close to Sassari, with an almost non-existent approach. It is extremely family-friendly and set within a residential area of the city, surrounded by villas, creating a rather unusual and distinctive environment. Directly opposite, Monte Istoccu is clearly visible, with its own climbing cliffs.

The wall is generally low but very intense, offering short, aggressive, and highly technical routes. The crag is divided into two main sections: one with routes up to about 20 meters, and another with very short lines around 7 meters, in some cases dropping to just 4 meters, almost like bolted boulder problems.

The limestone is of good quality, and the climbing style is consistently technical, demanding precise footwork and strong finger strength, leaving little room for improvisation. The south-west exposure ensures sunshine for most of the day, while the surrounding Mediterranean vegetation gives a true taste of the western Sardinian inland landscape.

⛰️Chighizzu è una falesia situata molto vicino a Sassari, con un avvicinamento praticamente nullo. È una falesia estremamente family friendly, inserita in una zona residenziale della città e circondata da villette, in un contesto decisamente particolare e insolito. Di fronte si distingue chiaramente anche Monte Istoccu, con le sue falesie.

La parete è prevalentemente bassa e molto intensa: vie corte, aggressive e altamente tecniche. Il settore si divide tra una parte con tiri fino a circa 20 metri e un’altra con vie molto brevi, attorno ai 7 metri, che in alcuni casi scendono fino a 4 metri, quasi dei blocchi chiodati.

Il calcare è di buona qualità e l’arrampicata è sempre tecnica, soprattutto su piedi e dita, con movimenti precisi e poco spazio per l’improvvisazione. L’esposizione a sud-ovest garantisce sole per gran parte della giornata, mentre la macchia mediterranea circostante restituisce un assaggio autentico dell’entroterra della Sardegna occidentale.

⏪⌚The history of Chighizzu begins in the 1990s and marks a small but significant revolution for climbing in the Sassari area, finally providing a true “rock gym” just minutes from the city. Before its development, there was no real reference area for climbing around Sassari: people climbed here and there, without a defined or central spot.
Thanks to the historic Grip team, all the single-pitch routes were bolted, short but intense lines on technical slabs, with grades that are anything but generous. Over the years, the crag has become a key training ground for local climbers and, in recent decades, has seen successive generations pass through, preserving its role as both a technical school and a symbolic urban climbing venue for Sassari.

⏪⌚La storia di Chighizzu nasce negli anni ’90 e rappresenta una piccola rivoluzione per l’arrampicata nel sassarese, che finalmente trova una vera “palestra di roccia” a due passi dalla città. Prima della sua scoperta e valorizzazione non esisteva un’area di riferimento attorno a Sassari: si scalava un po’ ovunque, in modo frammentato e senza un punto centrale.
Grazie allo storico team di Grip vengono chiodati tutti i monotiri: vie brevi ma intense, su placca tecnica, con gradi tutt’altro che generosi. Negli anni successivi la falesia è diventata un passaggio obbligato per gli arrampicatori locali e, nel corso degli ultimi decenni, ha visto avvicendarsi più generazioni di scalatori, mantenendo intatto il suo ruolo di scuola tecnica e di luogo simbolo per l’arrampicata urbana di Sassari.
