This fine crag lies at the western borders of the Peak District, on a last gasp of rugged Derbyshire moorland before the hills give way to the gentler plains of Cheshire.
Castle Naze offers some excellent crack and groove climbing (not to mention the occasional smooth slab) mostly in the Severe to HVS range, as well as a handful of more engaging challenges.
The crag is set in a magnificent hilltop position, offering panoramic views across the surrounding landscape.
Conditions and Aspect: The cliff faces due west and is fully exposed to the prevailing weather, be it afternoon sunshine or storms blowing in from the Irish Sea. The hilltop position mean seepage is minimal and this, combined with the open aspect and lack of tree cover, allows the crag to dry very rapidly after periods of rain.
