Västerås is a new bouldering area located about 10 minutes from Lahti city center. Approach to the sectors is easy. The area offers a wide variety of routes —from steep and powerfull to slightly overhanging old-school problems and Font-style technical climbs to slabs and indoor-style routes.
The rock quality is generally good, ranging from solid sandstone to sharper textures. Some sectors dry very quickly, while most are located in the forest, providing good shade during summer.
Landings are mostly good, though some problems are higher or traverse more, so bringing at least two pads is recommended. Move carefully around the area — you might come across some old metal scraps, broken glass, or other remains from the site’s urban past.
Development of the crag is still ongoing so be mindfull of the closed projects. If in doubt, contact developers.
Put yourself in the urban climbing mindset and enjoy a peaceful bouldering session in the heart of Lahti’s forest.
