Description

The village situated on the Gospić-Karlobag road pass is named Baške Oštarije. During the Venetian reign this was the place of night’s lodging for caravans, and the name of the place is a reminder of those times (ostaria is an Italian word for an inn). Exhausted by the journey, the travellers hardly payed any attention to Ljubičko Brdo which encloses Oštarije field on the northern side, and even less attention was paid to a set of rock faces rearing on its north-western end. Observed from Oštarije, these rocks appear quite impressive, so it is understandable they engaged climbers’ attention.
☝🏼Note: Climbing is not allowed in the period from 1st October to 30th July, the season of nesting and raising of the gray falcon (Falco peregrinus).
All the routes located on Božin kuk are beautiful and you can enjoy some high quality rock there. They are equipped with bolts, but it’s advisable to bring along a few nuts or friends. It is possible to rappel down most of the routes.
From all of the routes you need to rappel. Other option is to go little bit down ant up to the top of Ljubičko brdo and go down using a marked path.
Accommodation: The campsite is located on Baške Oštarije (open in summer). Mountain hut Vila Velebita in the vicinity of the Hotel Velebno.

🚗
From the road Gospić-Karlobag, in the village Baške Oštarije, a little before the hotel Velebno, turn right at a small chapel and pass through the village. Park the car after a little less than one kilometre, at the branching of a wide but, for vehicle, impassable trail.
🚶🏼‍♂️
From here continue on foot; at first follow an easy terrain on the left side of the meadow, and then steeper and steeper through the woods (no path) until you reach the crag and the chosen route (30-40 min.).
